The Common Cup Coffeehouse

I have a theory that you can tell how “good” (read: pretentious) a coffee shop is by how many sizes they offer their drinks in- the highest brow offer the fewest sizes. One must drink caffeinated beverages the way they were “supposed to be” made. Let’s just say the Common Cup’s cappuccinos come in small, medium, and large.

This is the shop in Ann Arbor that’s attached to a church. As such, it’s the kind of place that advertises free refills on coffee even if you stay there for hours.

Joey and I just got one cup full each, but we stayed there for quite a while. Notice the two Rebecca Solnit books on the table. We had a lot of reading to do. Solnit is Joey’s new favorite; he was less than thirty pages into his book when he announced that he was going to read everything she’s ever written. Perhaps it was just the coffee making him giddy.

Fun fact: They played Eiffel 56’s “I’m Blue (Da Ba Dee Da Ba Die)” while we were there. Haven’t heard that one in a while.
